My name is Bobbie. The woman you see in the photo is my grandmother Barbara. I'm actually named after her. I have been taking care of her since 2009. I had about 10K in savings when this all started but over the years that has dwindled to zero due to all the various needs that her insurance wouldn't cover, repairs for the house or car, and my own medical issues.
Gram recently took a turn and entered into hospice care. She has firmly stated to me in the past that she wants to pass at home. Her worst fear is passing in a facility. I will honor that request. We were getting her settled in and everyone was growing accustomed to our new normal... when she took another turn for the worse. She is still at home and comfortable but she is actively in the process of "transitioning" as the hospice nurses describe it. She could pass tonight, tomorrow, or days from now.
The thing is... I've never once asked for help in all the time I've been taking care of her and now that is coming back to haunt me as I have nothing set aside for her final wishes and nothing available to help cover costs for things like the mortgage, car insurance, utilities, or even groceries. I am going to be searching for full time work as soon as I am able but in the meantime I desperately need help.
So I am swallowing my pride and putting out the call to friends, family and even strangers who might be so kind as to help. $1000 of what I am asking for is to cover her cremation. The rest is to help me get by for a couple months as I attempt to find a better job with more hours in order to be able to not lose the home that I have had with my grandmother for 15 years.
I appreciate whatever help people can send my way and I will do my best to pay it forward when I am able. I love and appreciate you all and I am sure Barbara appreciates you as well. <3
Edit: October 5, 2025 I regret to inform you that Barbara passed away last night in her sleep. I thank you all that have donated or read the story. I will still need help getting through all of this of course but now the work of transitioning to these changes must begin.
