Honoring Auntie’s Legacy: Help Us Bring Her Home

Donation protected
Dear family,

We are reaching out with heavy hearts following the sudden passing of our beloved auntie due to complications from Parkinson’s disease. This loss has been deeply painful, and we are still coming to terms with it.

Auntie was a dedicated nurse, an educator, and a true champion for Black women. She poured her life into caring for others, mentoring many, and advocating for dignity, opportunity, and excellence. Her impact spans generations, and her legacy will continue to live on through the lives she touched.

She was a beloved aunt to Bertha Odhiambo, Nancy Odhiambo, Victor Odhiambo, and Maureen Awino-Orowe here in the Bay Area, and a cherished member of the extended families of the Okara’s, the Ogolla’s, the Odhiambo’s, the Onyango’s, the Awinyo’s, among many others whose lives she touched deeply.

As many of you may not yet know, auntie had been living in Coalinga, California. Since her passing, we have encountered a very difficult and distressing situation regarding her personal belongings and living arrangements. We are currently working through this matter, but it has added emotional and logistical strain during an already overwhelming time.

Our priority remains to honor her final wish—to return home to Kenya and be laid to rest in Kogelo with dignity and love. The total estimated cost for transporting her from the United States and organizing the funeral is approximately $36,000.

We humbly ask for your support during this time. Any contribution, guidance, or assistance you can offer will go a long way in helping us navigate both the funeral arrangements and the challenges we are currently facing.

We also ask for your prayers, patience, and discretion as we work through these sensitive matters as a family.

Thank you for standing with us.

With love and gratitude,
The Family
