With his love and presence in our hearts we mourn the tragic loss of my oldest brother, Augustine Damian Diaz, whose spirit ascended the body last Sunday night, early morning February 23rd, at a vibrant age of 50. As a single father, he raised two children, Cyrus and Trinity, who are now young adults, and in recent years shared much joy with his grandson, Leo. Augie was also a father figure to me as he is fourteen years older and our parent’s divorced shortly after I was born. Many of his friendships spanned decades with connections as intimate as those with whom he shared a household with.

Throughout his life Augie connected deeply, with kindness and laughter, to everyone he met through family, friends, and passions. He brought much joy, guidance, and adventure to all his closest acquaintances. In his work life he initially pursued woodworking in the billiard industry, then eventually settled on a 25+ year career in the telecommunications field as a technician/engineer on the Amgen campus in Thousand Oaks. In his free time he pursued many outdoor activities with vigor, always bringing any willing and able friends along for the experiences. A handyman and jack of all trades, he found a creative outlet through artwork and photography.

As a member/leader of the Santa Paula Society of the Arts, Santa Paula Arte and Cultura Collective, and Santa Paula Odd Fellows Lodge 314 he put together a diverse family larger than many of us will ever truly understand. He volunteered a significant amount of time to the afore mentioned establishments to improve the facilities, broaden the communities, and organize/lead events.

In this incredibly challenging time, our family is facing unexpected expenses related to memorial arrangements and healing. We created this fund to help ease the financial burden so our family can focus on sharing time in honor of Augie’s spirit. Funds raised in excess of memorial costs will be used to help ease the financial challenges his son, daughter, and grandson are navigating. Any contribution, no matter the size, will be greatly appreciated.

For those who prefer to donate in-person, we will be hosting carwash and BBQ dinner fundraisers in Santa Paula. The dates and locations for these fundraisers are still being planned. Further details will be distributed by our family, our community, and the associated social media accounts.

Close friends and family, feel free to reach out to us for more details regarding our circumstances.

Thank you for your love, prayers, and support.
Daniel and the Diaz/Splies Family.
