Aroz “Terrific” Gist dedicated his life to boxing, not for fame or fortune, but because he genuinely believed in people. A native of Paterson, New Jersey and graduate of John F. Kennedy High School, Terrific became one of the most respected trainers and mentors in the sport. Over the years, he helped guide countless fighters, both amateur and professional, while leading fighters like Kendall Holt and Shadasia Green to world championships. But beyond titles and victories, those who knew Terrific understood that his true gift was changing lives. He gave everything he had to boxing and to the people around him. Whether it meant long hours in the gym, traveling across the world to work corners, or offering advice, encouragement, discipline or simply belief, Terrific was always willing to help someone chase their dream.

Terrific passed away this Sunday at the age of 54 near his home in Pennsylvania, leaving behind his beloved wife Shima and their two daughters, ages 15 and 23, along with an entire boxing community that loved and respected him. This fundraiser is being organized to help cover final expenses, including bringing Terrific home to New Jersey for a viewing and memorial, as well as helping support his family during this incredibly difficult time.

Anyone who knew Terrific knows he spent his life giving to others. This is simply an opportunity for the many people whose lives he touched, including fighters, friends, fans and members of the boxing community, to give something back to a man who gave so much of himself.
