Apollo gained his wings today. This was not the goodbye we imagined for him, and it came faster than any of us were ready for. Earlier today, Apollo succumbed to a pedunculated lipoma, which is a type of internal tumor that can wrap around the intestines and cut off blood flow. By the time it was found, there were no real options left that would have given him a pain free life or a true chance at recovery. We had to make the heartbreaking decision to let him go to end his suffering. It was the kindest and only choice we had for him, even though it shattered our hearts.
Apollo was one of those once in a lifetime horses. Calm, quiet, and steady, he safely carried so many people over the years. Nervous riders, first time riders, riders returning after fear or injury… he took care of them all. He helped people find their courage, their joy, and their love for horses again. Everyone who met him felt how gentle and kind he was. We are so grateful that we were able to be there for his golden years, and that he did not leave this world alone. He was surrounded by love, soft hands, and people who adored him right up to his final breath.
We are creating this GoFundMe to help with Apollo’s afterlife care. Our hope is to have him cremated and sent home to his first mom, who loved him long before he ever came to us. It is very important to us that he is honored properly and that she is able to have him home again. Your contributions will help cover the vet bills, afterlife care, body recovery, and cremation costs. Any amount, no matter how small, will make a significant impact and is greatly appreciated. We know times are tough, and we do not expect anything from anyone, but if you are able to give even a few dollars or simply share this link, it means more than we can put into words. Thank you for loving Apollo with us, for riding with him, and for helping us send him home with the dignity and care he deserves.
