Annelise Was a True “Dog Lady”

Annelise’s heart was as big as her love for all living creatures. She cared for deer, raccoons, and even tarantulas from her California backyard. Her deepest joy, though, was rescuing dogs and giving them safe, loving homes.

Her journey with dogs was full of love, loss, and resilience. While recovering from her first life-saving brain tumor removal surgery, she had no idea her beloved Doberman George had passed. When she found out, she was devastated. She faced chemo with her sister’s silly Cavalier by her side, providing comfort and companionship, but soon her heart was ready to give love again.

That’s when she reached out to many adoption agencies and when she found Elvira, it was love at first paw. Elvira was underweight at just 100 pounds, and Annelise nursed her back to full health, surrounding her with the same love, compassion, and care she had always given. Today, Elvira is a thriving 175-pound Great Dane — strong, happy, and full of life.

Annelise passed far too young, at just 33, after a courageous battle with cancer. She had dreamed of many years with Elvira, imagining a lifetime of walks, adventures, and unconditional love together.

We are raising funds to ensure Elvira’s lifelong care and security. Great Danes are gentle giants with a lot of special needs and Elvira already has hip and shoulder issues that may require long-term management, specialized care, and potential surgical intervention in the future.

Our goal is to establish a lifetime care fund for Elvira, including food, routine and emergency veterinary care, and long-term stability. Any funds beyond that will support rescue efforts in Annelise’s name. Once Elvira’s needs are fully provided for, additional funds will go to a rescue organization to help other deserving dogs find their forever homes — continuing Annelise’s mission of love and rescue.
