It is with an incredibly heavy heart that we share the passing of our beloved Amariah Leverette. Amariah was 16 years old. She was bright, joyful, and full of life—someone whose presence felt like a wildflower: natural, radiant, and impossible to ignore.
She loved slime, music, spending time with her mother, and competitive cheer. With a background in gymnastics and a deep love for cheer, Amariah thrived in spaces where teamwork and precision mattered, where everyone had a role, and where each person was essential to the performance. She understood what it meant to be counted on—and to count on others. Her conversations were infectious, her spirit unforgettable.
Amariah suffered a traumatic brain injury that led to post-concussion syndrome and, over time, to depression. That depression evolved into suicidal ideation. In the midst of seeking medical and emotional support for her, the pain became too much for her to bear—a reality that far too many young people face quietly and alone. Prior to her concussion, Amariah was a happy, joyful, and optimistic young lady.
Across the United States, suicide is a leading cause of death among teenagers. Many young people are navigating depression, the long-term effects of head injuries, and overwhelming emotional pain—often while feeling isolated by their peers or unsure where to turn for help. Awareness, connection, and early support can save lives.
In honor of Amariah’s life, legacy, and light, we are launching The Amariah Foundation. The name Amariah is Hebrew in origin, meaning "promised by God.” The name reflects purpose, calling, and the will to see things through. That meaning mirrors who Amariah was and what this foundation will stand for.
The Amariah Foundation is dedicated to:
- Building meaningful relationships among young girls
- Raising awareness around suicide prevention and head trauma
- Educating communities about head trauma and its impact on mental health
- Promoting mental health awareness, compassion, and kindness
- Supporting mothers who have lost daughters by creating spaces for connection, understanding, and healing
At its core, this foundation exists to remind young people—especially girls—that they are not alone, that their lives matter, and that help, hope, and connection are always within reach. It also exists to ensure that mothers who have experienced this kind of loss are not left to grieve in isolation.
This GoFundMe represents the seed funding to establish The Amariah Foundation. Contributions will support foundational startup efforts, including program development, outreach initiatives, educational resources, and the creation of safe spaces for connection and healing—for both young girls and the mothers who love them.
We believe that kindness can save a life.
By coming together in Amariah’s name, we can help ensure that her light continues to shine in the lives of others. Thank you for honoring Amariah, for supporting this mission, and for helping us turn love into action.
