This GoFundMe is to cover funeral/memorial costs, and other family expenses related to the loss of Alfred M. Kailihiwa. All funds raised will be transferred directly from Go Fund Me to Alfred's sister, Valerie Kailihiwa, who will manage how they are spent. The family is facing a lot of costs. If any funds remain, they will be spent just the way Alfred would want — providing cat food for Maui's dedicated caretakers/trappers.

On the night of August 6, Alfred was feeding at one of his downtown Kahului locations when a man got upset because Alfred's head lights were shining toward him. There was a scuffle and Alfred used pepper spray. Later that night, he was jumped by the man and some others while feeding at another location. Alfred was rushed to Maui Memorial, where he was put on life support. The next day, he passed away.

Alfred is a beloved member of the Maui community, and especially adored by the Maui Cat Community. He really loved his sister, with whom he lived and trapped, and we'd like to do him right by making this situation a little easier on her.

The suspects have been identified and taken into custody. They are facing Murder in the second degree.
