This GoFundMe is to raise money to cover funeral costs and related family expenses for Maui's beloved Alfred M. Kailihiwa. If any money is left over, it will be spent just the way Alfred would want — to provide cat food for Maui's dedicated caretakers/trappers.

On the night of August 6, Alfred was feeding at one of his downtown Kahului locations when a man got upset because Alfred's lights were shining toward him. Alfred used pepper spray during the scuffle. Later that night, he was jumped by the man and some others while feeding at another location. They attacked him with a brick and did tremendous damage. Alfred was rushed to Maui Memorial, where he was put on life support. The next day, he passed away.

Alfred is a beloved member of the Maui community, and especially adored by the Maui Cat Community. He really loved his sister, with whom he lived and trapped, and we'd like to do him right by making this situation a little easier on her.

All funds raised will be transferred to and managed by Alfred's sister, Valerie.
