In September 2025, Elisa Levine lost her 15-year-old son, Adam, suddenly and tragically.

My name is Mischa, and I’m a close friend of Elisa’s. I’m creating this fundraiser because she would never ask for help herself—but right now, she and her son Toby really need their community.

I met Elisa on set nearly 20 years ago. She is deeply compassionate—someone who spent over a decade creating Sweetheart Deal, a powerful documentary about addiction and sex workers. Alongside that emotional rigor, she has an irreverent, razor-sharp sense of humor. She’s authentic and smart. Truly—she alone is the reason I remain on Facebook. Her posts and comments are consistently hilarious and literally improve my quality of life on a daily basis.

Adam was sensitive, brave, funny, and endlessly curious — he loved making people laugh, was fascinated by neuroscience and technology, loved cooking, and had big dreams for his future. Adam shared an especially deep bond with his identical twin brother, Toby—the kind of bond that is hard to put into words. Adam’s absence is felt every single day.

Elisa is now living through the ongoing, relentless reality of this loss while supporting Toby through his grief—therapy, medical appointments, and recovery programs—while carrying the weight of her own grief. To be present for him, she has had to reduce her work to part-time. She has put her filmmaking projects aside for the time being. The cost of living in Seattle continues to rise—creating real financial strain on top of an already devastating reality.

Elisa’s family is honoring Adam’s memory in a beautiful and lasting way. Through terramation, Adam will become part of the trees planted in his memory—a living tribute, including a Western Red Cedar that can live for over 1,500 years.

Funds raised will go toward memorial and deathcare expenses, trauma therapy and medical care for Elisa and Toby, ongoing recovery support for Toby, and basic living stability during this time—along with the many unexpected costs that follow sudden loss.
