On Tuesday morning, September 16, 2025, first responders were called to Westwood Elementary in St. Cloud after 7-year-old Abdinasir Gedi suffered a medical emergency. His family only learned of the incident once he was already at the hospital. Despite the efforts of emergency staff, Abdinasir’s condition remained critical, and on Saturday his young life was tragically cut short.

Abdinasir was a bright, joyful child. Autistic and unique in his own beautiful way, he was deeply loved by his parents, Macow and Shamso, his siblings, and the entire St. Cloud community. He brought light, laughter, and love into the lives of everyone who knew him. His passing has left a hole that can never be filled.

This tragedy is a painful reminder of how fragile life is. One day parents send their child to school with hope, and just days later they are preparing for a funeral. No parent should ever have to endure such grief.

Along with unimaginable pain, the Gedi family now faces heavy financial burdens funeral and burial costs, time away from work, and the ongoing responsibility of caring for their family while they try to heal.
