Honoring a young life lost, Nicholas Hansen

Donation protected
Hello, my name is Barb Weisen,
This is my son, Nicholas. He is 32 years old and lost a 17-year battle with his own blood. He was diagnosed with Factor 5 Leiden disorder. It's a blood clotting disorder. He spent countless hospital visits trying to remain positive. Although, knowing he had a ticking timebomb inside of him. He developed blood clots, all were deadly, yet he was strong and often able to feel them developing before a CT scan or MRI could spot them. He was ultimately unable to beat the final clot, one that we had never even heard of, this one was a Saddle Embolism, massive and there was nothing they could do, he was in and out of consciousness and there was virtually no oxygen penetrating to enter his lungs. Clot busters and 47 minutes attempting to resuscitate, it was his final battle. He had survived so many. DVT's at 15 yrs. old, PEs at 16 yrs. old, a clot in his brain that kept him in agony, 30 days in the hospital at only 17 yrs. old, laying on his back in a dark room due to light exposure was too painful and enduring a spinal tap every other day to relieve pressure on his brain. His first heart attack at 18, resulting in angiogram to find the blood clot, angioplasty to clear the blood clot. A second cardiac event two days later while in the hospital. A clot in his abdomen that resulted in a years' worth of aftereffects and ulcerative colitis. Above is just a list of clots that occurred before he was 20 yrs. old. Nick's twenties were riddled with too many of the same. He has had so many Pulmonary Embolisms that he has permanent damage to his left lung. Since the age of 15, Nick had not gone an entire 365 days without being hospitalized. Ages 15, 16, & 17 alone he spent a total of 68 days in a hospital with another 42 days going through withdrawal from the pain meds that were supplied via nonstop IV drip. So, year after year, every deadly clot after clot. Nicholas would be hospitalized with a clot that most would die from and sent home with a demon that attempted to kill his soul as well. He was a fighter, a true champion, a warrior. Even with the demon unleashed on him, he fought to keep his soul. Maintained the ability to still be a friend, tried not to burden others with his own heavy thoughts. Then to navigate life his internal conflicts were a weight no one person should bear.

He is known by many nicknames. However, no matter which of Nicks Names you knew him by; Nick, Nicholas, Stubbz, Spud, SpudNick, MeHoy Minoy. Whether you knew him as his birth name Nicholas Richardson, or post 3rd grade as Nicholas Hansen. One thing that remained consistent, his character, integrity, loyalty, his twisted sense of humor, quick wit, along with his compassionate and forgiving heart. He was often underestimated and faced adversity from the beginning. He was a true friend to all that had the opportunity to know him. And always able to set aside his problems to help a friend through theirs. Known for offering thoughtful advice and with the kind of knowledge that comes with an old soul. He placed his words wisely with kind intent. He loved to create memes and had a love of music and gaming. A kid at heart he had a gift for understanding children and animals. He had a giggle and a laugh that were contiguous and will resonate in my soul forever.

I want to honor a life that was cut too short.

Raising funds for service and his memorial.
