Honoring a Lost Twins Legacy: Support Raquel
Donation protected
Donate now to help local artist Raquel Ramirez register for Architecture School at SCI-Arc.
My introduction to art came from my twin sister, Rebecca. Rebecca had her first solo exhibition at the age of sixteen and went on to attend Otis College of Art and Design in Los Angeles, California. A few years later, Rebecca was killed by a hit-and-run driver. Her car caught fire and trapped her inside. This circumventive act revealed that I was not equipped to handle a loss so grand.
I began to sew to channel my pain and honor my twin. Sewing earned me two sculpture scholarships from Glassell in Houston, Texas. I am now heading to California as I have received a full scholarship to pursue a master's in architecture at SCI-Arc in Los Angeles.
While this might appear to be a linear progression, it has come with many hurdles.
I will lose my only source of income in pursuit of this goal. I do not come from generational wealth and will not receive financial help from my family. My scholarship only covers tuition. Donate to cover the cost of health insurance, materials, admin fees etc. All of which must be paid before I register for class.
Throughout our adolescence, Rebecca continued to illuminate the importance of art and to this day is the most influential person in my work. I plan to wear her Otis shirt on the first day of school!
