Help Us Honor Brett Gormley, a Dedicated Educator, Coach, Father, and Community Leader

Our family is asking for support for my brother, who is now 46 years old and currently in hospice care after a courageous battle with lung cancer.

My name is Kristen Walker, and I have the privilege of being his sister. I’ve witnessed firsthand the kind of man he is—selfless, dedicated, and deeply committed to the people he loves and serves.

For more than 20 years, he dedicated his life to the Massachusetts public school system. He wasn’t just an educator—he was a mentor, a coach, and a constant source of support for his community. He served as a School Committee member in Brockton and volunteered countless hours coaching track, basketball, and football.

Above all, he is a devoted husband and father. His love for his wife, Kara, and his children—Avery, Amaya, and his stepson Andrew—has always been at the center of everything he does.

As his illness progressed, Kara has been by his side every step of the way, providing unwavering care, love, and support. In doing so, she has had to take on not only the emotional weight of this journey, but also the growing financial strain that comes with lost income, mounting bills, and the day-to-day responsibilities of caring for their family during this incredibly difficult time.

Now, as we face this heartbreaking reality and prepare to say goodbye, our family is also facing unexpected funeral and end-of-life expenses.

This fundraiser will help cover:
• Funeral and memorial service expenses
• End-of-life care and remaining medical costs
• Any outstanding living expenses and financial obligations

My brother has spent his entire life giving—to his students, his athletes, his community, and most of all, his family. If you were lucky enough to know him, you know the impact he’s made. And if you didn’t, we hope his story moves you just the same.

Any donation, no matter the amount, is deeply appreciated. If you’re unable to give, sharing this page means just as much to us.

Thank you for your kindness, support, and for helping us celebrate his life.
