Remembering Mom & Seeking Justice

We cannot thank the Murray Police Department, the District Attorney’s office, the news media, and everyone who has shared our mother’s story enough. This has been an unimaginable tragedy — my siblings and I are still struggling to eat or sleep. “Devastated” doesn’t even begin to describe the depth of our grief.

Since my birthday — the day Nathan Michael Portillo chose to be so careless and take our mom’s life — everything has changed. He showed no remorse, and while our family sought answers, he even attempted to conceal evidence of his actions.

We are grateful that first-degree murder is among the charges filed against him, because that is exactly what occurred. He took our mom’s life on a day meant for celebration, transforming it into one of pain and heartbreak that we will never forget.

As a community, we must remain vigilant when driving. One careless decision can destroy countless lives.

Even though charges have been filed, the financial impact on our family continues. We are still struggling to cover her final expenses and the bills she left behind.
