Richard Collins, a Beloved Father and Army Veteran Memorial

It is with incredibly heavy hearts that we share the unexpected passing of my father, Richard Collins, a proud United States Army veteran who passed peacefully at home. While his passing was sudden, he left this world surrounded by the love he spent his life giving so freely to others.

My dad was truly one of the nicest people you could ever meet. He was the kind of man who would give you the shirt off his back, go out of his way to help a stranger, and never hesitate to lend a hand to anyone in need. His kindness was genuine, constant, and came straight from the heart. To know him was to be changed by his warmth and compassion.

He adopted me when I was just a kid, and from that moment on, he became the best father anyone could ever ask for. He chose me, loved me unconditionally, and devoted his life to being a supportive, caring, and present parent. Everything good in my life is rooted in the love and guidance he gave me, and I will forever be grateful for the father he was.

My dad had many passions, but one that truly defined him was writing. He loved to write anything—stories, articles, thoughts, and ideas—and he was almost always found sitting at his computer, working on something new. Writing brought him joy and purpose, and he proudly wrote for newspapers over the years, sharing his voice with the world. It was simply part of who he was.

He also deeply loved animals, especially his beloved cat, Polly, who was his constant companion and brought him so much comfort and happiness. Polly was family to him, just as much as anyone else.

As a veteran, my father served in the U.S. Army and was stationed at Fort Dix, New Jersey, in 1972. He carried that service with quiet pride throughout his life. He was also a devoted member of West Church in Haverhill, where he found faith, community, and fellowship.

Because his passing was so unexpected, our family is now facing financial challenges. We are asking for help raising donations to cover funeral and memorial services, as well as financial assistance for what he has left behind. Any contribution will help ease this burden during an already heartbreaking time.

If you are unable to donate, please know that sharing this fundraiser, keeping our family in your thoughts, or saying a prayer means just as much.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your kindness, love, and support. Every donation, message, and share helps us honor the life of an incredible father, veteran, and human being who gave so much to everyone around him. He will never be forgotten.
