Yevette(mom) has always been the life of the party, a beautiful spirit to be around. When you met her she’d take you in as one of her own. She became a grandmother in 2020 and we witnessed a strength like no other. She was always there for everyone, taking care of everyone, motivating everyone. At a young age she always had struggles with her stomach which continued. In 2008 she was living in a small town with limited healthcare options. She was ready to get serious about what was causing her so much distress. They soon diagnosed her with Diverticulosis (the presence of small, bulging pouches (diverticula) in the lining of the intestine, usually the colon) but the dietary changes at that time did not help her symptoms. Over the years she did all the appointments and testing recommended but in the end she still struggled with stomach issues. Still on the drawing board they then diagnosed her with Diverticulitis (when small pouches (diverticula) in your colon lining get inflamed or infected, causing sudden, severe lower-left abdominal pain, fever, nausea, and changes in bowel habits constipation/diarrhea) at that point she thought that was the solution but the treatment methods over time weren’t working. She moved to Houston in 2018 with extreme pain when her flare ups started. After finding a new care team she was diagnosed with Gastroparesis (a chronic condition where stomach muscles work poorly, slowing or stopping food from moving to the small intestine, often due to vagus nerve damage) we knew at that point this was the correct diagnosis. The sad part was that besides a complete lifestyle change there wasn’t much they could do to prevent her constant suffering. April of 2023 she tested positive for Covid and in the hospital they told her about a few mass that were seen on a CT scan, they recommended she get them tested. May 18th she was told she has stage 2 pancreatic cancer and by June it was elevated to stage 4. She began chemotherapy August of 2023. She has been fighting and the will to live has never wavered. As the fight gets tougher she has expressed that she is tired. Her constant pain and discomfort is a hard process to witness.
