Michael and Lisa Hurley are setting up this fund to help the family of our good friend Brian Anderson.
Brian passed away on April 10, 2026 after a 10 month battle with brain cancer. Brian was unable to return to work after brain surgery and ongoing treatments in the months to follow. His wife Lisa has been his full time caregiver.
Brian owned and operated BA Builders, his own construction company for 35+ years. In 2023 Brian went to work for the Hampden County Sheriffs Dept. After 2 years his professionalism and dedication made such an impact that he was acknowledged when the Sheriff's dept dedicated a building in his name. Brian's motto "Don't cut corners" lives on in so many of us and now on a plaque with his name on this building.
Known for his generosity and determination, Brian sponsored many local sports organizations and volunteered his time for several projects in the town of Belchertown. He also rode his bicycle 193 miles from Sturbridge, MA to Provincetown, MA in the PanMass Challenge for 9 consecutive years to support Dana Farber
More than any of his life’s accomplishments, Brian’s proudest moment was becoming a dad and he lived to create over the top memories with his son. Whether building a homemade spaceship, doing Legos, creating imaginative Elf on the Shelf stunts, sharing his love for deep sea fishing, passing down his meticulous carpentry skills, or shooting hoops after a long day of work, Brian made everlasting memories happen.
Most recently it was so important to him to support his son’s college endeavors by contributing toward college expenses. Even after joining the HCSD, Brian continued to do side work in order to do so. His son is a junior mechanical engineering student @ University of Delaware and Brian was determined to see him graduate in 2027, even after a terminal brain cancer diagnosis.
Donations would honor Brian’s wishes to help with his son’s final year at University of Delaware by replacing the lost financial support for tuition expenses.
Anything additional would be used to defray the significant medical expenses incurred over the last year.
