Gil's Greenhouse-Dedication Plaque
Donation protected
A Tribute To Our Friend: Donations are being collected to purchase a dedication plaque, which will be placed in the garden, to honor Gil.
Gil Mejia was not only a part of our David Brearley custodial staff but also a major supporter of the Art Department. Throughout the years, he spent countless hours helping with our mosaic projects, donating his time and resources and also entertaining us with childhood stories from his time in Mexico. Gil would light up as he shared memories of his upbringing as well as anecdotes of the `importance of hard work. He would also frequently impress us by drawing pictures to illustrate his stories, which to us, made him feel like an honorary member of the Art Department.
The time we spent with Gil showed us that not only was he an amazing friend with an incredible sense of humor and a dedicated father, but also an exceptionally hard worker. The pride he took in even the most thankless of tasks like mowing the lawn, the care he showed for the courtyard plants, and the commitment he had to the people of this community became the focus of this year’s project.
Gil’s life is the inspiration for the images that you see on the mosaic corners of the greenhouse. The journey that brought him to Kenilworth is an amazing story which we are proud to be able to pay tribute to through the dedication of this space. We hope his memory will continue to be honored through the conversations and smiles that are shared in this garden as well as through the enjoyment that this unique learning environment will provide to the students of this school.
