On August 21, 2025, we lost her... "Momsie" or "Aunty Toni" or "Toni Auld Yardley." She prided herself and lived her entire life as a Hawaiian activist, writer, and publisher. She welcomed many into her Kula Street home with open arms and loved to talk stories and share her experiences.
From a childhood encounter with Elvis during his tour in Hawai'i, to winning a Na Hoku Hanohano Award; spending time with the Dalai Lama, or being on a legal team that took a court case representing the Hawaiian Kingdom to The Hague, her life was vast and full.
But what she considered one of the most significant of her accomplishments would be her stand for protecting Hale O Papa - a sacred women's Heiau in Halawa Valley, built to honor Papahanaumoku (Earth Mother - who gave birth to Haloa, ancestor of all Hawaiian people) which led to her arrest. However, her stand was successful in having the H3 rerouted. She stood firmly for the protection of sacred spaces of Hawai'i as she felt the protection of ancestors from beyond and believed their existence would be heard.
Unfortunately, after a major medical scare on the day after Christmas of 2024, we had to face the realization that she could no longer go home and needed 24/7 medical care. We knew our time with her was limited. Fortunately, we were able to make multiple trips both from Hawai'i Island for my 'Ohana and me, as well as my brother Rob, who visited monthly from California to be with her and assist in her care.
If you know Momsie, you know she went against the grain with a vengeance and stood by this firmly until the end.
We always love her for who she is and for her commitment to Hawaiian people and want to honor her in a way she would be proud...
...Please help us do so as we will be laying "Momsie" and her beloved hiapo - son "Troy Reikow" (who preceded her in death on August 19, 2020) to rest on November 22, 2025, at the Chapel on the grounds of Oahu Cemetery at 10:00 in Nu'uanu, Oahu.
Much aloha to all who loved these vibrant and unique Hawaiians and please help us show them the ALOHA they deserve as we lay them to rest, mahalo nui.
