Honoring Davin Mills: Support for Arrangements & Memorial Service
"This is a post I never wanted to write. My sweet son, Davin Mills, passed away on July 12th. He is finally at peace—the peace he so desperately sought in this life. I only wish he could have felt it while he was still here.
Davin had a way of knowing everyone—and being known. If you were lucky enough to have him in your life, you know how special he was. He had a bright spirit and a loving heart.
From the very beginning, he was full of energy and determination, arriving 3.5 weeks early. Born on a Friday the 13th, he came into this world to challenge perspectives and awaken people to new ways of seeing. And that he did.
He loved sports—especially hockey. He found joy on the ice, often playing goalie in rec leagues, and when he skated out as a player, he always managed to score at least one goal. He had a natural talent and an unmistakable light.
Davin also had a deep love for cars—he could fix just about anything and found real pride in knowing how things worked under the hood. Whether he was detailing a car, driving it, or just talking shop, it brought him real joy.
He was deeply connected to the outdoors. Whether it was hiking, riding motorcycles, or just breathing in the fresh air, nature was one of the few places he felt truly free. The mountains, especially, seemed to bring him a quiet kind of comfort. Wildlife found him, which he connected with and loved animals
Davin was also incredibly artistic. He expressed himself through tattooing, where his creativity came to life in intricate lines and meaningful designs. He had an eye for detail, and his work—like his spirit—left a lasting impression. Creating art was one of the ways he made sense of the world and shared a piece of himself with others.
But Davin also carried deep wounds. In the days before his passing, he shared more with me about the abuse he experienced in childhood—things he had buried for years. My heart aches that I couldn’t protect him from that pain. This unresolved trauma led to substance use, and although he had nearly three years alcohol-free, recent events stirred those old demons.
He was targeted by dark, vindictive individuals determined to ruin his reputation and destroy his tattoo career. He struggled to get free from an abusive intimate partner, and the destruction she caused made him feel like that was what he deserved. Unfortunately, Davin was unable to break the cycle of domestic violence in his all too brief lifetime.
There is currently an active investigation underway to determine the official cause of death, compounding our emotional distress.
We will hold a celebration of life on Friday, October 10th 6-9pm at The Barn at Evergreen Memorial Park.
This gives us time as we take space to grieve, reflect, and find our footing in the midst of this tremendous loss.
Thank you for loving him. Please keep him—and us—in your hearts."
