It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Derek Maringelli, known to many as Derek Marin. Derek was a New York-born DJ, electronic music producer, composer, and label owner whose work touched the underground music community for more than 25 years. After making Berlin his home, he continued creating music and inspiring artists around the world through his passion and dedication to his craft. Over the past decade, Derek faced ongoing health challenges, including serious pancreatic illness. As his health declined, he gradually became isolated from many friends and extended family. Because of this, many people who knew and cared about him are only now learning of his passing. I created this fundraiser to honor Derek’s life and give those whose lives he touched an opportunity to pay their respects in a meaningful way.

For the past ten years, Derek shared his life with his devoted partner, Marie-Sophie Amian. They built a life together that was, in every sense, a marriage. When Derek became critically ill in April, Marie left her job to become his full-time caregiver, remaining faithfully by his side until the very end. Today, Marie is facing not only the unimaginable grief of losing her life partner, but also the financial burden that comes with it. We are hoping to raise €8,000 to help cover Derek’s funeral expenses and €5000 to provide Marie with the support she needs as she begins rebuilding her life after this tremendous loss.
