Honor Sue Chew's Legacy with a Tree

Memorial Tree For Sue Chew Democratic Idaho Representative
Sue Chew was the longest serving Democrat in the history of the Idaho House of Representative. She was a passionate advocate for education, healthcare, the environment and the citizens of Idaho. Her hallmark was serving the 17th District whole-heartedly, knocking on every doorbell and inviting young people to learn about political engagement alongside her. She died in 2024 of cancer.
Before she died, I asked her what kind of memorial she would like. She looked at me and smiled saying, simply “A Tree.”
We are now ready to honor her request. Thanks to the Idaho Parks & Recreation, we have a spot at Discovery Park next to Lucky Peak. Idaho P & R and the City of Boise helped us access their tree and granite marker vendors to complete the plan.
Here’s the plan:
• Schedule the planting of the Red Point Maple by June 1 for about October 15.
• Order the Granite Marker.
• Pay the Vendors
• Decide on a specific date for the dedication
The City & State have made their contributions and now it’s time for us to make ours. The total cost of Sue’s Memorial project is $3500.00.
Sue Chew’s tree, along with the bench the family is donating, will be a fitting memorial to her contributions to Idaho and to the kind, thoughtful way she represented the best interests of all of us.
I have set up a special bank account under my name to receive these funds. Our goal is to reach $3500.00 by June 1. Then we can order the tree, pay the vendors and schedule the dedication.
Thank you!
