This Is The Way Foundation was created to honor the life and legacy of Spencer Thorsland, a courageous 13-year-old who battled cancer for over three years. On January 8, 2024, Spencer gained his angel wings, leaving behind an inspiring story of resilience, hope, and kindness.

Spencer, aka Thor Vizsla, was a Mandalorian at heart, and lived life The Mandalorian Way, always putting others before himself. His positive spirit, courageous smile, and spunky attitude touched lives around the world.

During his journey, Spencer's care involved an unbelievable number of medical professionals, and Spencer built meaningful connections with each of them. The immense love the medical community poured out on Spencer inspired his dream of becoming a surgeon—either in trauma or plastic surgery.

We want to fulfill Spencer's dream by empowering the next generation of medical professionals.

The Eventually Scholarship

The foundation's first initiative is the Eventually Scholarship, inspired by Spencer’s belief in the power of hope. He often said, “Eventually, cancer will be defeated. Eventually, we’ll find a cure. Eventually, we’ll all be healed.” This scholarship aims to honor his words and support students pursuing medical degrees, including careers in nursing, medicine, therapy, anesthesiology, and more.

We hope to inspire solutions and healing in the fight against cancer. Who knows? The cure might come from one of these remarkable young individuals.

Launching in Spencer’s Honor

To kick off our mission, we are launching a capital campaign in Spencer’s honor. Funds raised will establish an investment account, with the earned interest funding the Eventually Scholarship annually.

Together, we can carry forward Spencer’s legacy of hope and determination while fostering collaboration to defeat cancer.
