Help Us Honor Scotty Smalls’ Life and Legacy
It is with deep sorrow and unimaginable grief that we share the tragic loss of our beloved brother, Scotty Smalls, who was taken from us far too soon on Thursday, June 26, 2025, at the age of 38. Scotty was shot and killed in an act of violence that has left our family heartbroken and searching for answers. What makes this even more painful is that he lost his life at an eerily close age that his mother’s (Michelle, 37) life was also taken—an eerie and cruel parallel that weighs heavy on us all.
Scotty didn’t have an easy life (by any standard). He faced many obstacles from an early age. The world didn’t offer him many helping hands or safe places to land at key moments, but despite it all, he remained a light in the lives of many. He was someone who carried a big heart, often choosing to smile through pain and lift others up, even when he himself was down or was dealt a bad hand. He would rather give you the shirt off his back than to see you struggle.
Recently, Scotty had begun to turn his life around. He was working hard to build a better future and create something meaningful for himself. It wasn’t easy, but he was doing it—and that progress gave us hope. It’s devastating to know that just as he was stepping into a better chapter, his story was cut short.
We are not asking for support because we cannot manage the financial burden of his funeral alone. We’re asking because “every act of kindness, every word of care, and every contribution—no matter the amount—means the world to us in this time of overwhelming sorrow.” Your support is a symbol of love and a reminder that Scotty mattered. That his life meant something. That justice for him matters.
If you feel moved to help us honor Scotty’s life and support our family as we navigate this loss and seek justice, we are deeply thankful. Your care reaches beyond dollars—it speaks to the impact he had and the love that surrounds him still. It also shows the love and care you have for us that are his family.
Thank you for standing with us. With love and gratitude,
The Johnston and Smalls Family.
Funeral services will be held at 11AM Thursday, July 3rd at Greater Vision Baptist Church. The viewing will start at 10AM for anyone who would like to attend.
