This year, our very good friend Cindy Rector lost her dear husband Sam. Sam had the kindest of hearts. He was a man of faith, a great husband, and a great father. He loved, protected, comforted, and cherished Cindy, their children, and all of their family. He faced every challenge in life with Cindy and the Lord at his side. Having endured so much, he offered mercy and kindness to those suffering through their own struggles. He held hope for the hopeless and encouraged all who he met.

His girls were daddy's girls and thought he hung the moon. He was a hero to his youngest son who looked up to him in everything. His oldest son became a wonderful father and husband because Sam was a true example and light to him. He taught his children that above all things, seeking the Lord will be the best decision you could ever make. He loved family time, weekend trips with his wife in the woods, and the joy of quiet time with the Lord on the sun porch. He is missed every day.

The Markey Cancer Center was an indispensable source of support for Cindy and Sam and we want to remember Sam and show our deepest affection for Cindy by naming the 7th Big Blue Cancer Blast fundraiser for the University of Kentucky Markey Cancer Center Foundation in his honor.
