Help Us Honor the Life and Legacy of Rico Gilardi

With heavy hearts, we share the passing of our beloved husband, father, and community leader, Rico Gilardi, who left us peacefully at home on June 4, 2025, after a long and courageous battle with ALS. He was surrounded by family, love, and the same unwavering grace that carried him throughout his life.

Born in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, Rico was a soccer phenom whose passion for the game began the moment he could walk. He rose to prominence as both a player and coach, earning his professional license in Germany and leading national clubs across Ethiopia. In the early 1990s, he brought his legacy to Minnesota, where he mentored countless young athletes, coached at Como Senior High School, and served his community through the Minnesota Nyala Sports Club and the Ethiopian Sports Federation in North America. Rico’s love for life was contagious. His presence lit up every room, and his impact was felt far beyond the field.

We are reaching out to ask for support with the funeral and memorial expenses as we prepare to honor Rico in the way he truly deserves. Any contribution, no matter the size, will help us celebrate his life and give him the farewell he earned through a lifetime of love, service, and strength.
