Hi, I’m Alex, and I’m reaching out during a really tough time for our little family. Eight months ago, my partner and I adopted Mister, a sweet, loving, and truly one-of-a-kind cat who instantly stole our hearts.
Even though our time with him was far too short, he brought so much joy and love into our lives.
Sadly, we had to say goodbye to Mister on 11/18/24 after a sudden and severe illness. Despite doing everything we could and the incredible care from his vets, we couldn’t save him.
In trying to give him every possible chance, we ended up with over $16,000 in medical bills. On top of that, our pet insurance has refused to cover the costs, saying it was a “pre-existing condition,” even though it was never diagnosed. Unfortunately, the symptoms of hyperthyroidism overlap significantly with those of gastrointestinal disease, which has allowed the insurance company to classify the condition as pre-existing and deny coverage.
When we adopted Mister, we were told he was about 8 years old. But during his final hospital visit, the vets told us he was likely closer to 12 or 14. Of course, we would have still adopted him in a heartbeat—we loved him so much—but if we’d known his real age, we could have been more prepared for a shorter time together and some of the health challenges that came with it.
We’re starting this fundraiser to help with the financial strain of these unexpected bills. We’re so grateful for the time we had with Mister and want to honor his memory by sharing his story and the lengths we went to for him.
Anything you can give, no matter how small, would mean the world to us. And if you can’t donate, sharing this page with others would help us so much too. Thank you for taking the time to read this and for your kindness during this incredibly hard time.
