Help Us Honor Misago Foustine

Our beloved father, Misago, passed away recently, and we’re raising funds to help cover his funeral and burial expenses.

Born in Rwanda in 1948, Misago never had the chance to go to school. He couldn’t read or write, and when he moved to the U.S. later in life, he didn’t speak English — but that never stopped him. He showed up to community classes with a smile, eager to learn, always trying. That was who he was: determined, joyful, and full of heart.

He made the ultimate sacrifice by bringing our family to a new country — not knowing the language, the system, or what lay ahead — because he wanted his children to have every opportunity he never had. He gave everything so we could build a better future.

To many in our community, he was more than a father. He was a mentor, a safe place, a friend. He was “Grandpa” to everyone — not just to his grandchildren, but to anyone who needed someone to care. His home was open, his heart was generous, and his presence made people feel seen and safe.

On June 21st, 2025, our dad suffered a major stroke and was hospitalized for over a month. Though he had lived with health challenges for many years, the stroke was devastating and marked the beginning of a long, painful decline. Since then, he’s been in and out of the hospital, enduring repeated complications with strength and grace. On July 20th, he was rushed back to the ER. His blood pressure was dangerously high, and he was battling a severe bacterial infection that had spread throughout his body. The doctors told us his heart could stop at any moment.

Despite every effort, his condition worsened. On July 20th, around 9:30 p.m., surrounded by family, he was taken off life support and passed away peacefully.

Misago’s legacy lives on in the lives he touched — in his children, grandchildren, and the many who loved him deeply.

If you’re able, please consider donating or sharing. Every contribution brings us closer to giving him the farewell he truly deserves.

With heartfelt thanks,
The Misago Family
