Honor Mattson Houghton:
On July 7th, while at work, Mattson suffered a Grand Mal seizure that led to cardiac arrest. A bystander quickly called EMS and once they arrived they were able to revive him after multiple attempts - unfortunately, his brain was deprived of oxygen for far too long during this. He was immediately taken to Wellstar griffin and despite their efforts seizures continued.
He was airlifted to Emory Hospital, where further tests confirmed a catastrophic brain injury. We await studies to confirm the prognosis and allow for potential organ donation.
Mattson lived life boldly and loved with his whole heart. He didn’t plan for someday. He lived for joy in the present moment and poured love into the people around him. We take comfort in knowing he will soon be reunited with his dad, Chris, in Heaven. Their reunion will no doubt be filled with peace, laughter, and love.
Mattson and his dad shared a deep bond over their love for the water, fishing, and the ocean. To honor their memory, the family plans to create a custom memorial reef where both Mattson and Chris's ashes will be placed together for eternity. This living tribute will become a permanent part of the sea they loved, supporting marine life while creating a place of beauty, peace, and remembrance.
Many have asked how they can help. This is how.
Your support will help make this reef memorial possible and ease the financial burden on Shyra, Anna, and Sid. It will give them space to grieve and remember the laughter, joy, and life shared with our sweet boy. Mattson was a big-hearted teddy bear with a contagious laugh and a beautiful soul.
Let his legacy inspire us all:
WWMD — What Would Mattson Do?
Worry less. Love more. Laugh often. Plan less. Live fully.
A celebration of life will be planned in the future when Shyra and Anna feel ready to look beyond today. Until then, we thank you for surrounding them with your love, prayers, and support.
