My name is Cindy Brooks, and I am honored to share the story of my dear friend and Miracle League player, Matt Duffin. Matt lost his battle with cancer on September 2, 2025. Matt was more than just a teammate on the field – he was a true fan of life and, especially, of the game of baseball. Through his traumatic brain injury and other medical challenges, Matt faced hardships that prevented him from working, but he never let those struggles take away his love of the game or his spirit of encouragement for others.

Matt spent 15 years with our Miracle League of Henry County family. He wrote sports articles, hosted us on his Brain Mechanics on WCTV.tv and his radio show Brain Injury Radio, cheered for his teammates, the Texas Rangers, and always found ways to support the league he loved so much. Baseball kept him going, and he gave his whole heart to the players, coaches, and friends who surrounded him.

Most of all, Matt was deeply loved by his daughter, son-in-law, and grandson, who faithfully cared for him through every appointment, every game, and every challenge. They were his constant support system and made sure he was never alone. Now, as they grieve his passing, the financial burden of funeral expenses is a heavy weight for their young family.

We want to honor Matt with the proper burial he deserves—one that reflects his passion, courage, unwavering love of baseball, and service in the U.S. Navy. Our goal is to raise $2,500 to help cover funeral costs and give Matt the farewell he wished for.
