Nine months after losing our daughter Malia, we are honoring her legacy the way she would have wanted- by helping her dear friend Sofia. Sofia lives with severe cerebral palsy and needs a safe, accessible home. Together we can turn love for Malia into hope for Sofia.

The Malia Moore Foundation was created in Costa Rica while Malia was still with us, to support children with special needs and their families.

Our family met Sofia when she was just two years old. From the very beginning she and Malia formed a beautiful bond and became great friends. Since then, we have been honored to support Sofia by helping with medical equipment and financial assistance whenever possible.

Sofia’s Story:

Sofia was born on May 5th, 2017 in Puntarenas, Costa Rica, with Grade 5 cerebral palsy. She requires 24/7 care and full assistance with daily activities.

Her mother, Belkys, is a devoted single mom who works part-time in catering while caring for Sofia around the clock. She does everything she can for her daughter — but making ends meet is a daily struggle.

Their current neighborhood is unsafe with daily noise, alcohol, and drug activity. The steep incline to their home makes it extremely difficult for Belkys to get Sofia out. There is also no outdoor space where Sofia can enjoy fresh air, sunshine, or simply be a child.

Our Goal: A Safe Home for Sofia

Our goal is to raise $35,000 to help Belkys purchase a small lot of land. With land ownership, she can apply for a government funded accessible home. This would give Sofia and her mother the chance to build a safe and stable environment designed for Sofia’s needs.

On April 11th, the Malia Moore Foundation, in partnership with Provide and Conquer an organization empowering local women as chefs and entrepreneurs, will host a special fundraiser at La Hoja Nueva. Join us for an afternoon of music, food, and fun as we come together to support Sofia.
