Update: Thanks to everyone’s support and generosity, my abuelita is now in Orange County. We will be honoring our beloved Lupe Gutierrez with a church service on Friday, October 10th at 10am. Her funeral will be held the following day: October 11th at 10am. Thank you again!

Tragedy has once again struck our family.

With broken hearts, we share the devastating news of the loss of my beloved Abuelita, Lupe Gutierrez, who was tragically taken from us in a horrific act of violence. Her life was taken too soon, and our family is dealing with the grief, especially as justice has yet to be served.

Lupe was not just a victim—she was a woman filled with love, strength, and resilience. A devoted mother to Letty, Manuel, Rocio, Beto, Jenny, Rebecca, and Rodrigo. She raised her children with compassion and an unwavering faith in God, even through some of life’s darkest moments. Despite the many challenges she faced, Lupe never allowed her spirit to be broken. She taught us how to be strong, how to forgive, and how to love deeply.

She was also a proud and cherished grandmother, sister, and friend. Her bond with her sister, Lilia Bravo Gutierrez and brother, Joe Villa Gutierrez was special. Of course, she also adored her grandchildren and would always call to ask about us. Lupe made everyone around her feel seen and loved.

Now, during this time, we are reaching out for help. Our family is working quickly to bring Lupe’s body back home—from Tijuana, Mexico to Santa Ana, California—so we can lay her to rest surrounded by her loved ones. We are planning to transport her on Friday, September 26th, and are aiming to hold the funeral by Saturday, October 11th. The financial burden of transporting her and arranging her funeral is more than we can bear alone in such a short period of time.
