Greeting Family and Supporters... It is with great sadness and heartbreak, that Southern Birth Justice Network informs the community of the passing of Lanieyah Setticase. There are not enough words to articulate the light that was Lanieyah's essence. She was a joy to be around and touched the lives of all those she interacted with. She was an emerging leader and a champion of Reproductive and Birth Justice work throughout Florida and beyond. She worked as a birth and abortion doula providing direct services to other young Black mothers in her community. Lanieyah was a mother of four and she knew how important it was for mothers/women/people to have the services and support they need to thrive.
During this time, we come to you to share our pain. Our hearts cannot completely grasp the loss and our minds want to turn back the hands of time. However, we feel it resonate within in the same way that Lanieyah would push us towards advocating for those that need our help to be heard. She would want us to continue her legacy by supporting her family.
This loss will weigh heavily on us, as we lost her light too soon. We want to ensure that her four minor children are cared for at this moment and all necessary accommodations for Lanieyah's homegoing are made. We ask for you to donate whatever you can. No amount is too small. 100% of monies donated here will go to Lanieyah's mother so that she can bury her daughter and provide for her four grandchildren. In times of need, the community shows up for each other and we appreciate any effort.
Please stand with us as we support the family during this time. These funds will go directly to the family. Lanieyah will not be forgotten, as she has touched so many lives and the impact of her work will have ripple effects for years to come. Rise in power Niyah!
