On Friday night, our beloved "Kitti" born Ricky Ornelas was tragically taken from us. Ricky was young, full of life, and the heart of everyone around her. An underage drunk driver—so intoxicated he should never have been behind the wheel—drove up onto the sidewalk where Kitti was already walking, struck her, and left her there. He did not stop. He did not render aid. Instead, like a coward he heartlessly abandoned her to die on the sidewalk. Sadly she past from the injuries. That choice was evil, and it has shattered our family.
Kitti was the daughter of my late sister, Amelia Rivas -Ornelas. With their mother gone, Kitti and her siblings—Vanessa, Juan—were everything to each other. Now they are left broken, devastated and missing the sister who meant the world to them.
We are raising funds to:
Help cover legal costs, as we fight to hold the driver accountable who already has a ridiculously low bond and charges have not been upgraded and to ensure justice is served and help give Kitti a dignified funeral and burial, celebrate her life with love.
We refuse to let him simply “wash his hands” and walk away from this crime. His family may wish for him to be deported quickly, but deportation alone is not justice. He must face the full weight of the law here for what he did with no remorse. Kitti’s life mattered, and her death cannot be brushed aside or forgotten.
Times are tough—we understand not everyone can give. But we ask you from our hearts: please share Kitti’s story. Every share, every prayer, and every word spoken about her makes sure she is not forgotten and that her justice is not silenced.
Kitti was more than a headline. She was family. She was a beautiful soul full of laughter and love. And we will not let her memory fade.
