My family and I are deeply saddened to share that our grandmother/mother/sister/friend, etc, Kathy Franco Portela, passed away at 60 years old. Kathy was truly one of a kind — loving, bold, and unforgettable in every way. She had a heart big enough for everyone, and a personality loud enough to make sure you heard it, whether you wanted to or not.
Kathy was known for “telling it how it is.” She didn’t care who you were — if something needed to be said, she was going to say it, and trust me, her voice was going to be heard. She could be incredibly kind, caring, and protective of the people she loved. But if you ever got on her bad side… well, you might end up on her famous “shit list,” and everyone knew that was not a place you wanted to be.
As funny and tough as she was, she was also the kind of woman who showed up for her family no matter what. She loved us fiercely, and we want to honor her with the service she deserves — one filled with love, stories, and laughter, just like her.
We are asking for help to cover the costs of her funeral, viewing, and cremation. Anything you donate will go directly toward giving Kathy the farewell she deserves. If you’re unable to donate, sharing this link means just as much.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and for supporting our family. Your generosity, prayers, and kind messages mean the world to us during this difficult time.
