It is with a heavy heart that we announce that Karim Pina transitioned to heaven at the age of 22 on Sunday, July 28, 2024, following a ten-year battle with MELAS, a rare incurable genetic disease which caused strokes, seizures, vision loss, and excruciating pain. Karim was a fun-loving, bright-spirited person who cared about everyone, despite the suffering he endured. He was hospitalized for most of his life to treat the complications and pain which MELAS presented.

Karim’s mother, Karina Pina, is a single parent who studied to become a Registered Nurse to help others who are suffering from illnesses like her beloved son. Karina is my loving god-sister and has shown tremendous perseverance and humility through her steadfast love and support to her son throughout this ordeal, which is why I wanted to try to assist her with raising additional support for our beloved Karim’s funeral arrangements.

Many of you have reached out to the family and have asked how you may be of aid during this time. We want to honor Karim’s wishes and we are planning a homegoing service for him.
