Honor Jessica's Passion: Support Future Scientists
Donation protected
Our beloved Jessica A. Warns-Carrick passed away on August 23, 2024, on her 34th birthday due to complications after surgery.
Jessica married the true love of her life, Colin Carrick (Huggy Bear), on October 22, 2022, in Denver, Colorado. They truly were made for each other! They shared their life with her two K-9 babies, Crispr and Remington. She loved unicorns and rainbows, Disney movies, and Josh Groban songs. She loved snow and was always excited when they would get some. Sweets were a favorite, especially chocolate and cakes, and her favorite colors were pink and purple.
Jessica had such a kind soul and loving heart. She loved her family and friends, animals, science, education, and so much more! She was always so positive and encouraging towards everyone she met!
Jessica was currently working as an Assistant Professor of Biology in the College of Arts and Sciences at Northern State University in Aberdeen, South Dakota. She had also spent two years in research at the University of Colorado Health Science Center.
She obtained her bachelor's from Muskingum University in 2013 with honors in the field of Molecular Biology. She then moved to Grand Forks, North Dakota, for her graduate work studying colon cancer progression and obtaining her Doctorate degree in 2018. She obtained her degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the University of North Dakota. Upon graduation, she moved to Colorado for her post-doctoral fellowship at the University of Colorado, near Denver. She had a great passion for biology and her research and loved to share those experiences. During her career, she had six papers published detailing her research findings. Her passion for learning was so deep she often remarked that she would become a full-time student if she could!
In memory of Jessica and her passion in the field of science, we would like to raise money to honor and to help future learners at Muskingum University find their passion for science just as she did.
We want to try to raise funds for a touch screen display that has diverse uses.
- One section on the display would honor Jessica, her time at Muskingum, as well as her education and career in science.
- Other sections on the display would be information to celebrate scientific research at Muskingum, work being done by alums.
- Advising information for current students. The advising area for current students includes but isn't limited to: Pre-med, pre-vet, pre-PA, pre-dent, pre-optometry, pre-chiropractic, pre-podiatry, pre-pharmacy, pre-perfusionist, and more.
- Masters and PhD routes to a variety of areas of biology spanning field biology, molecular biology, neuroscience, cell biology, microbiology, and more.
- Career Exploration Information in areas such as Biotechnology company scientist, Histotechnologist, ODNR career options, Fish hatcheries, Wildlife Officer... and more.
- Finally, an area to explore recent new scientific discoveries.
If you are able to donate in honor of Jessica, it is greatly appreciated! We hope that you continue to remember the time you had with Jessica and carry her kind spirit on with you!
