As so many transgender women know, our lives are so fleeting in so many ways that when tragedy strikes, it doesn't shock us anymore when things happen to one of us. That is a pity, as we are too used to losing trans women at young ages.

Jayda fainted on the 22nd of July, was rushed to the hospital where she lay in a coma for 4 days in ICU, to wake and be told they needed to perform an emergency procedure on her heart. She passed shortly after on the 28th, as her heart was too far gone with damages to survive.
Jayda was one of my daughters. We have been friends for 30 years. We have been there for each other through many struggles and battles as life was not the kindest to us, but we pushed through. At no time did she ever lose sight of herself that she let it affect how she treated people. She had a smile that warmed a room and a disposition that brightened the darkest days. But like so many of us, we have our demons that haunt us, that we keep inside, bearing the weight of those harsh and harmful things alone. Suffering in silence as we do so often, she trudged on trying to make sense of this life. All she ever wanted was the love she gave freely to be given back.

In memory of this remarkable woman, I am launching this fundraiser to honor the loving, gentle soul they were to so many. Jayda was born and raised in Montgomery, Alabama, and out of respect for her family, her services will be held there. They have entrusted me with the arrangements, and we will be laying her to rest Saturday, August 9th. The Grammy's Place house members and loved ones will be transported to the service from Birmingham.

There was no insurance policy held by any family members, and they don't have the capacity to handle another death as they have had losses this year, and this was so unexpected they just could not take it on.

As a member of Grammy's Place, and a long-term friend and mother to many, I accepted the responsibility and come humbly to you asking for support to put this angel to rest. There will be a service for her family, friends, and loved ones, and her remains will then be cremated with her ashes being spread by the Alabama river as we lay her down by the riverside....
