Support the James Joseph Celona, Jr. Perseverance Scholarship

Hello everyone,

In 2009, the Perseverance Scholarship was created by Rosalia Bianchi, Special Education Guidance Counselor at East Boston High School, to honor students with learning disabilities who have achieved success despite their challenges.

In 2016, we renamed the scholarship to honor the memory of my brother, James Joseph Celona, Jr., a proud 1988 graduate of EBHS. Jimmy faced an unexpected and life-altering heart condition that ultimately required a heart transplant. Despite this devastating setback, he persevered, grateful for the five additional years he was able to share with his son, three beautiful daughters, family, and friends before his passing.

Each year, we strive to continue his legacy by awarding scholarships to EBHS special education students who have demonstrated extraordinary resilience. These are students who may not always be at the top of the class, but who have worked tirelessly to overcome academic and social-emotional obstacles. Their determination to pursue higher education, vocational training, or career opportunities deserves recognition and support.

With your help, we can continue to honor these students at the East Boston High School Academic Awards Banquet, where their achievements will be celebrated in front of their proud families and teachers.
