Honor Iha Sensei: Celebration of Life & Return to Okinawa

Donation protected
In honor of our dad, Iha Sensei, we are hosting a memorial service in Michigan and taking his ashes back to his family ohaka (tomb) in Okinawa. We invite you to contribute to fulfill his wishes.

We welcome you to join us in celebration of life for Iha Sensei at the Japanese Garden at Michigan State University on August 31st. This will be a time to share memories and friendship for family, friends, and guests, both in-person and virtually around the world.

We will also be traveling with our dad one last time back to his birthplace to rest in our family ohaka.

Our family ohaka is located in the village of Tanabaru, Okinawa and it was his dying wish that his ashes be returned to his ancestral lands.

This sacred ritual is performed by a Buddhist Monk who will place Iha Sensei’s ashes into the family ohaka and write his name on the family altar.

It is important to bring our dad’s ashes back to his birthplace in Okinawa and for the whole family to be present during these rituals.

Our costs include:
  • Cremation $4,200
  • Buddhist Monk Services $5,000
  • Transportation of ashes and family travel $6,000
  • Celebration of Life at MSU Gardens $10,000

Thank you for contributing to this last honor for our dad, Iha Sensei,
Uto & Hiro
