I am raising funds for a memorial to honor Gus Ben David and his contribution to island life by bringing the Ospreys back to Martha’s Vineyard. Over 50 years, Gus has overseen the addition of over 130 active nests, making the Osprey the island bird.

I will use my first Osprey of forged and welded stainless steel (2012) and will add a special plaque to mount on the stand of Gus holding his pet golden eagle Chameli. There will also be engraving that will describe his life and a quote by him.

Gus was well loved by many with most school children having visited either Felix Neck or his private wildlife center, educating generations of islanders.

The monument will be placed near Sunset Lake in Oak Bluffs across from the harbor where it will be seen driving down New York Ave and while walking around the lake that has been restored with natural plantings. This was Gus’ childhood neighborhood.
