Honor Grey Loomis: Support Memory Grove

Dear friends, family, and the Ocho community,

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Grey (Zaia) Loomis on the morning of November 18th. Grey, who brought so much love and light into our lives, will be deeply missed by all who knew them. Our hearts go out to James, Michelle, and Ziggy during this tragic time.

As the family comes to terms with Grey's passing, they face the difficult task of arranging their final farewell. We are reaching out to the community for support in honoring Grey's life. The family has chosen to honor Grey through Terramation, a process that transforms the body into soil. This soil will be used to plant a cluster of apple trees in Memory Grove at the Ocho, reflecting Grey's love for Honeycrisp apples and animals. The planting will be surrounded by habitats for birds, bunnies, and other wildlife.

Memory Grove, first conceived after the passing of our dear friend Jazzy Brite, provides a living memorial to grieve, remember, and celebrate loved ones we've lost in our community. By planting trees, grapevines, or other flora, we ensure that their legacies live on, providing beauty and ecosystem services.

In light of Grey's passing, James wishes to bring this project to fruition. 100% of the funds raised will cover the Terramation process and support the development of Memory Grove. This includes:

• Equipment rental for creating planting terraces and pathways

• Installation of irrigation infrastructure

• Construction of benches, gathering areas, and waterways

• Pathway materials

Community members will be invited to contribute their own plantings, benches, or artwork to honor their loved ones, creating a shared space for grieving, celebration, and remembrance.

We want to acknowledge that a separate GoFundMe has been created to support Grey's mother. Both fundraisers are equally important, and we encourage you to contribute to either or both as you see fit.
