In Loving Memory of Freddy the Barber

On the morning of November 4th, 2025, Freddy passed away surrounded by his family, following a tough battle with Stage 3 stomach cancer. Freddy was born in Vega Baja, Puerto Rico. He is survived by his loving wife, 4 stepchildren, 6 children, his brother, two sisters, and many grandkids and great grandkids. He was a loving husband, brother, son, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend to so many people here and in Puerto Rico.

Freddy was diagnosed with stomach cancer earlier this year, and yet very few of his loved ones knew about his diagnosis or his challenges, as he was the kind of person who rarely shared his own hardships and chose instead to uplift the spirits of everyone around him. Though he began to recover following his surgery in March, the cancer returned in a much more aggressive form. When Freddy was diagnosed with terminal cancer early October, he decided to surrender himself to God’s will. He chose to live the rest of his days in his home with his loved ones, and asked God to grant him peace. Freddy was surrounded by family and close friends during his final weeks, and he was guided by his faith and devotion to family and God. Freddy always believed God would lift him once again and heal him from cancer. His faith remained strong until the very end.

Freddy loved his community and was deeply loved by friends and family in Connecticut, Boston, Florida, California and Puerto Rico; his loved ones continue to encounter folks in the community who grew up with Freddy and speak of him highly. Freddy is considered family for so many people from a variety of communities. Everywhere he went, he tried to put people at ease, regardless of their challenges or battles.

Freddy will be remembered for his reassuring words, full of determination and care for his loved ones: to anyone dealing with hardship, he’d remind them “Smile, God loves you” and “take it easy, there’s still life to live.” He loved to play dominoes and pool, listen to salsa and gospel music, eat good food and hang out with his closest friends. He never missed a Puerto Rican parade and he loved to celebrate his culture. No matter where we went, he dressed with style and carried a big, contagious smile.

Family and friends are raising funds to give Freddy the funeral service he requested and deserves. All donations will go towards funeral costs, with a closed casket funeral service held at Freddy's beloved church. Any contribution, no matter how small, will help alleviate the financial strain and allow his family and friends to focus on grieving and remembering him fondly.

En memoria de Freddy el Barbero

En la mañana del 4 de noviembre de 2025, Freddy falleció rodeado de su familia, tras una dura batalla contra cáncer de estómago en fase 3. Freddy nació en Vega Baja, Puerto Rico. Le sobreviven su amada esposa, cuatro hijastros, seis hijos, su hermano, dos hermanas y muchos nietos y bisnietos. Fue un esposo, hermano, hijo, padre, abuelo, bisabuelo y amigo cariñoso para muchas personas aquí y en Puerto Rico.

A Freddy le diagnosticaron cáncer de estómago a principios de este año, pero muy pocos de sus seres queridos sabían de su diagnóstico o de sus dificultades, ya que era el tipo de persona que rara vez compartía sus propias penas y, en cambio, prefería animar a todos los que le rodeaban. Aunque comenzó a recuperarse tras su operación en marzo, el cáncer regresó de forma mucho más agresiva. Cuando a Freddy le diagnosticaron un cáncer terminal a principios de octubre, decidió entregarse a la voluntad de Dios. Eligió vivir el resto de sus días en su casa con sus seres queridos y le pidió a Dios que le concediera la paz. Freddy estuvo rodeado de su familia y amigos cercanos durante sus últimas semanas, y se dejó guiar por su fe y su devoción por la familia y Dios. Freddy siempre creyó que Dios lo levantaría una vez más y lo curaría del cáncer. Su fe se mantuvo firme hasta el final.

Freddy amaba a su comunidad y era profundamente querido por sus amigos y familiares en Connecticut, Boston, Florida, California y Puerto Rico; sus seres queridos siguen encontrando a personas de la comunidad que crecieron con Freddy y hablan muy bien de él. Freddy es considerado como parte de la familia por muchas personas de diversas comunidades. Dondequiera que iba, trataba de hacer que la gente se sintiera cómoda, independientemente de sus dificultades o problemas.

Freddy será recordado por sus palabras tranquilizadoras, llenas de determinación y cariño hacia sus seres queridos: a cualquiera que se encontrara en una situación difícil, le recordaba "Sonríe, Cristo te ama" y "Cógelo suave, hay vida. " Le encantaba jugar al dominó y al billar, escuchar salsa y música evangélica, comer buena comida y compartir tiempo con sus amigos más cercanos. Nunca se perdía un desfile puertorriqueño y le encantaba celebrar su cultura. Dondequiera que fuera, se vestía con estilo y lucía una gran sonrisa contagiosa.

Su familia y amigos están recaudando fondos para darle a Freddy el funeral que él pidió y se merece. Todas las donaciones se destinarán a los gastos de funeral, que se celebrará con el cuerpo presente en la iglesia querida de Freddy. Cualquier contribución, por pequeña que sea, ayudará a aliviar la carga financiera y permitirá a su familia y amigos centrarse en el duelo y en recordarlo con cariño.
