Honor Edwin Whitt's Last Wish: Bring Him Home

On Sunday, January 26th, my sister Danielle and I received a heartbreaking phone call from our dad, Edwin. He was in the ICU in the Dominican Republic. His last words to us over the phone were that he just wanted to come home, that he loved us, and how hard it was not having someone there with him who shared his last name.

The next day, things took a turn for the worse. Our dad was placed on a ventilator, and we knew we had to be by his side. We rushed onto a plane to the Dominican Republic, desperate to be with him. When we arrived at the ICU, we held his hand, told him we were there, and reminded him just how much we loved him. In a moment we will forever cherish, he opened his eyes for us—one final sign that he knew we were there. On Wednesday, January 29th, our beloved father passed away.

Edwin was an Army veteran and a proud member of the Union Pacific Railroad family. He was the funniest, loudest, most charismatic man, leaving an impact on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. His kindness, humor, and larger-than-life personality will never be forgotten.

Now, we are faced with the heartbreaking task of bringing him home. It was our dad’s final wish, and we want to honor it. We are asking for any support to help us cover the costs of international transportation and funeral home expenses. Every contribution, no matter the size, will help us give our father the farewell he deserves.
