Our beloved Dad and Poppy, Vardie Dewaine Hall was diagnosed with extensive stage (stage 4) lung cancer this May, which has spread to his lymph nodes and liver. After months of grueling treatment, his doctors have said there is nothing else they can do. He entered into home hospice care on Saturday, 8/23, and is expected to live less than 6 months.

Having lost our Mom and Nana, Ruth Ann, just 4 years ago, we were saddened to hear of the news of Dad’s cancer. He has been a loving, self-sacrificing father to his four children, and a wonderful grandfather known as “Poppy” to his two young grandchildren, Amelia (7) and Lucy (1). His grandchildren have been such a source of joy for him, through the grief of losing his wife in such a tragic and sudden way.

He is a proud veteran of the 101st Airborne Division of the US Army, and always loved to tell stories about his time jumping out of helicopters.
He has spent his life trying to provide a good life for his children. He suffered financial hardship his whole life, and despite all his efforts, was unable to get ahead. Due to this enduring financial hardship, our parents were never able to pre-pay for funeral expenses. Thanks be to God, the donations to Ruth Ann’s funeral fund paid for their joint burial plot at the cemetery. Due to the speed at which the cancer spread after diagnosis, there was not enough time to gather enough funds for the high cost of funeral home expenses. We want to give our Dad the funeral he deserves, to honor his life, and the sacrifices he made for us all these years. He served his country, and then spent his life providing for us, and now we need help taking care of him as his life draws to a close and he prepares to meet his Creator.

We are currently asking for donations to help cover the cost of Dewaine's funeral, to give him the funeral and goodbye that he deserves. Cemetery and funeral expenses are typically required to be paid upfront. We are seeking funds to be able to afford transportation of his body, a simple casket, visitation and funeral service at the funeral home, and graveside burial service at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Louisville. Estimated funeral and burial costs come to $9,000-12,000 for a basic, simple funeral.

Please prayerfully consider donating or sharing our GoFundMe, as any amount will truly help our family during this unimaginably difficult time.
Thank you so much.
