It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Dana Meyers. Dana was a legendary figure in the world of R&B, Soul, and Funk music — a gifted songwriter, producer, arranger, and musician who had a deep love for the autoharp.

Dana was an integral part of SOLAR Records and Sylverspoon Productions, led by producer Leon Sylvers III, alongside an incredible team of hitmakers including William Shelby, Stephen Shockley, Glen Barbee, Kevin Spencer, and Wardell Potts Jr., to name a few.

He helped shape the sound of a generation, writing timeless hits such as Shalamar's "A Night to Remember" and "This Is for the Lover in You", and The Whispers’ "It’s a Love Thing", "I Can Make It Better", and "In the Raw", among countless others.

Dana’s contributions extended far beyond songwriting and production. He provided background vocals, arrangements, and instrumentation for iconic acts such as Dynasty, Lakeside, and Klymaxx. During his time at Motown, he co-wrote songs for Michael Jackson, Evelyn "Champagne" King, Tavares, Lenny Williams, and Glenn Jones. His work continues to be sampled by today’s artists, cementing his legacy as a true architect of modern music. His success and influence are undeniable.

Beyond his incredible musical talent, Dana was a son, a father, a grandfather, an uncle, a sibling — and the heart of a vast community of friends who loved him deeply. His passing has already left a profound void in the lives of his family, his peers, and the many fans who continue to enjoy his music.

Dana was a quiet genius and a true pillar in music history. His smile was infectious — when he smiled, you couldn’t help but smile with him. His positive energy and heart of gold were matched only by his unwavering honesty and integrity. He was deeply loving, kind, and genuinely cared for those around him.
