Honor Coach Dave Lazar’s Legacy

Coach Dave Lazar has dedicated 27 years to coaching and teaching at Fenton High School, becoming the winningest coach in the school’s history. His influence goes far beyond the softball field—he’s been a great teacher, mentor, and role model for countless students and athletes. Through his coaching, Coach Lazar taught not just the fundamentals of softball, but also important life lessons that his players have carried with them long after graduation.

One special memory comes from the 1978 state championship team, where Shelley and her sister Robin were fortunate to play for Coach Lazar. His famous “assume speech” about calling for pop-ups—reminding players that if you assume someone else will catch the ball, you might end up running a lap—became a lesson in responsibility and teamwork. Stories like these are just a glimpse of the positive impact Coach Lazar has had on generations of students.

Now, we have the opportunity to honor Coach Lazar’s incredible legacy by naming the high school softball field after him. Funds raised will go directly toward creating and installing signage with his name on the front of the pressbox at the softball field. Please join us in celebrating Coach Lazar’s years of dedication and help ensure his legacy lives on for future generations. Your support means so much to our community!
