Walworth County Cloggers - In Memory of Carrie Reeves

UPDATE: As our instructor team enters into our first showcase without Carrie, we are working to create an event that lives up to the expectations she held for our showcases: that our dancers were celebrated and our audience experienced an impressive show. Mark your calendars, save the date (Saturday, May 10th), and join us to celebrate clogging and honor our beautiful friend at our 2025 Showcase "I Feel Like Dancing" at Young Auditorium, Whitewater.

With deep sadness, we share the loss of one of our founding members, Carrie Mabry Reeves, age 44 on Thursday, September 26th, 2024.

Carrie began clogging with Clowntown Cloggers in 3rd grade. By 1996, when Walworth County Cloggers was formed, Carrie had already shown her natural leadership, outgoing personality, and commitment to positively impacting all things she was involved in. As Walworth County Cloggers grew, she quickly stepped up to contribute even more. She was one of the first WCC instructors, started our Tiny Tot program, and continued to serve as an instructor and team director with WCC all these years! No matter what life threw her way, her commitment to clogging remained evident. Both inside and outside of the studio, Carrie's love for clogging was easy to see.

We will forever remember her energy that picked us up when we needed it, her ideas that made all we did better, and her commitment to our dancers, her fellow instructors, and all things clogging!

The tremendous impact Carrie has had on our dancers and our program is something we are struggling to accurately represent. We would love to hear from current and former dancers -- share your photos and memories to help us give tribute to this amazing woman.

In honor of Carrie Reeves, we are collecting donations to create a fund to assist individual dancers with costs (session fees, clogging shoes, uniforms) and also to fund group events such as Showcase, workshops, and competitions. Carrie had a desire to keep clogging affordable while also creating experiences our dancers would cherish for a lifetime.

Carrie had a giving spirit and would often lend out her shoes or uniforms to others. While our program remains extremely affordable because of our all-volunteer instructor staff, creating a scholarship fund for dancers that would benefit from assistance with the cost to join is something we feel would continue to honor Carrie’s generosity.

Carrie loved clogging and would come up with ideas for our shows, team-building activities, fun nights, and of course our Showcase performance, which is held every other year at Young Auditorium at UW-Whitewater. Carrie loved this event and always found ways to make the day extra special for our dancers. We want to keep her love for Showcase in full force for our upcoming Showcase on May 10, 2025. Along with Carrie’s daughter, Allyssa, and the rest of the instructor team, we would use donated funds to cover costs to hold this event and honor Carrie’s vision.

Carrie’s daughter and three of our dancers began a new adventure into competitive clogging last year. Carrie was able to travel to see WCC Elite compete for the first time at the World of Clogging competition in Cincinnati, Ohio. She was so very proud of them and loved watching these girls challenge themselves with new things. We want to assist with the expenses of the competitive program and support Allyssa as she develops as a coach for our competitive dancers.
