On October 1, my brother in law Bruce Rodriguez lost his life to an act of violence as he finished his shift as a Culver City bus driver. For 12 years, Bruce served his community from behind the wheel. The role he loved most was at home, where he got to be a husband and a dad.
Bruce was his family’s primary provider. He took great pride in caring for the people he loved. His death changes their financial future overnight. His loving wife and best friend, Sandy, is now caring for their two very young children while grieving the loss of her husband. Bruce’s parents have also lost the son who helped care for them.
We are raising funds to help my sister Sandy and the Rodriguez family find stability as they begin to navigate life without Bruce. Contributions will help honor his memory, pay for memorial expenses, and allow Sandy to focus on caring for their sons as she determines what comes next for their family.
Bruce LOVED being a father. He was already teaching his oldest son, who is almost 3, how to play baseball. The two of them had their own collection of inside jokes. Six months ago, Bruce and Sandy welcomed their second baby boy. The people who loved Bruce got to watch him become a silly, affectionate dad who wanted to experience the world alongside his kids. The love Bruce poured into both boys will stay with them for a lifetime.
Bruce adored Sandy. From the beginning, they knew they had found something special in each other. They were newlyweds, excited about the life they were building together and the family they were growing. He worked hard to make sure she felt loved and secure. He also cared for his elderly parents, who share the family home.
Bruce had an easygoing warmth about him and could get along with anyone. He loved making people laugh. He collected race cars, made his own Pan Dulce, and loved a good cup of coffee. These are the everyday pieces of Bruce that his family and friends will carry with them.
Supporting my sister is one way we can honor the love and care he gave so freely. If you are able to give, every contribution will help. Sharing this page also helps Bruce’s story reach others who may want to support Sandy and the boys.
Thank you for holding Bruce’s family close during this devastating time.
